Bike Month in Review

Now that National Bike Month draws to an end, Sacramento bicyclists will continue their devotion to cycling, despite the 90+ degree weather! The past few weeks brought plenty of changes in temperature, from hard rain to severe shine, but it didn’t stop the die hard pedal pushers.

Bike riders in the Sacramento region celebrated bike month with a variety of activities, including a Davis to Sacramento Causeway commute, a Folsom bike maintenance class, a Colonial Heights garden tour, a bike swap supporting Boys 4 Bikes, and a Ladies Mountain Bike Ride through Folsom Lake – just to name a few! And of course, serious riders participated in the California AmGen tour from Long Beach to Sacramento from May 13-19. This scenic tour covered 645 miles of roadways, highways and coastlines during seven stages, routing through Santa Barbara, Laguna Seca, San Jose, Morgan Hill, Stockton, Elk Grove, Folsom, South Lake Tahoe, and finishing in Sacramento.

Aside from our typical enjoyment of the American River Bike Trail located right next to our office, we rang in bike month with an unconventional ride on the Sacramento Brew Bike! The original plan was a brew bike race, with the winnings to support one of our favorite Sacramento charities, 50 Bikes for 50 Kids, but apparently we must have intimidated the competition because after we signed up, no one wanted to race! So we turned it into a Tour de Capitol, with the Brew Bike generously donating our registration dollars to our chosen charity.

If you missed out on the bicycling celebration, don’t fret! There are still another 2 days to participate in National Bike Month! Tomorrow night (May 30) there will be a College Cyclery Ride starting at 6pm at Track 7 Brewing Company in Curtis Park, Sacramento. Thursday (May 31) you can enjoy a Bike Month After Party at the SacYard Community Tap House + Beer Garden from 5pm-7pm, or head out on a 50 Corridor Victory Ride through Folsom South Canal, Gold River (sign up here).
